Helen Keller by Maysona

Helen Keller Speech

By Maysona

Hello! My name is Helen Keller (Waves). I was born in Alabama in 1880. When I was a baby, I was fine until the age of two. I got sick from an illness and then I became deaf and blind. My parents found out at the age of seven. My parents called a specialist named Ann Sullivan. One day Ann spelled a word into my hand I did not understand. When she let me wash my hand I understood that she had spelled the word “w-a-t-e-r”.

When I grew up, I used Braille to read. I knew the alphabet in Braille and soon Braille helped me write. I even knew numbers in Braille when I saw things. I could spell in sign language and I was the first deaf and blind person to graduate college.

Soon I starred in a movie about my life. I wrote twelve books. My most popular book was an autobiography called The Life of Helen Keller. I began helping people. Ann, my friend, Polly, and I, traveled all around the country helping people by giving speeches.

Ann died in 1936. Polly and I travel for many years until she died in 1960. On June 1, 1968, I died at my Westport Connecticut home, just before my birthday.
