Early life

 

Hello old folks my name is George Washington. I’d like to tell you about my life. I’m NOT bragging or anything but I’m a BIG BIG BIG part of this Country!!!{LAUGHS}

I was born on February 22 1732. I was born in Westmoreland County in Virginia.

When I was young I loved hunting, swimming, adventure and riding horses.

 

My half brother Lawrence

 

I had a half brother named Lawrence he had always convinced me to join the military. But I always replied [I have too much work to do on the farm with my mom and dad.

 When I was 19 my 2^nd father died [sob][sob][sob] it was Lawrence!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  1^st my father then my 2^nd father well Lawrence died. So that was it I joined the military!!!!!!!!!!!!

A general

When I joined the military I completely rose through the ranks soon I became lutenint colonel so I was a general serving the British. In 1754 through 1758 I fought in the French and Indian war. The French told the Indian’s to help them so the Indians did help the French to try and conquer some of the British’s land.

 

The winner is……………………

 

The winner of the war is…. The French!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So the French conquered some of the British’s land.

Returning home for now…

After the war George returned home to Mt. Vernon back home he married Martha Custis and became a stepfather to her 2 children.  George and the colonists bought a lot of stuff in England that they couldn’t buy in America. The king of England made them pay taxes for stuff like tea and stamps. Colonists were angry and asked the king to stop the taxes because the Colonists didn’t like it. But the king said no so we decided to come back and fight. And this was the start of the revolutionary war!!!

When they started the war it was winter George and his army were like always tired and Freezing cold [Brrrrrrr!!!] We often ran out of supplies. George gave lots of his money to help his soldiers.  They lost many battles. But George never gave up [Yay!]  One day they even did a sneak attack. Later they finally won the war!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [Yeah yah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!]

 

The king?

People said George Washington should be king but George Washington didn’t that much power so. He wanted to be called a president. So he became president for 8 years/2 terms. [1 term equals 4 years][2 terms equals 8 years!]

I’m Martin Luther King Jr. I was born in Atlanta Georgia in 1929.
When I was little I was told I could not play with many other children because of the color of my skin. I didn’t understand why they cared about the color of my skin! I went to school at David T. Howard elementary.

 

I went to high school at Atlanta Laboratory School, I went  college at Morehouse College in Atlanta when I was fifteen. I  grew up and had many speeches and marches for equal rights between blacks and whites. In 1953 I married a women named Coretta Scott. Ten years later in 1963 I had my famous I have a dream speech at the Lincoln memorial in D.C. a year later I won the Nobel peace prize. In 1968 I was shot and killed by James Earl Ray.

My name is Elizabeth Griscome until I got married most people call me Betsy. I was born in 1752 in Philadelphia. I was the oldest, I went to school  I was six I learned how to read, do math, and sew.

 

I married John Ross in 1773, that’s when I became a Ross. We opened our own sewing shop; there we made flags, rugs, and clothing .Our shop never improved, in 1776 John died I have five girls. It got too hard with my busy life, so I remarried John Claypool.

 

One day I heard a knocking at my door so I went to get it was George Washington he asked me to make a flag with 13 stars and 13 stripes. I worked hard and late on that flag. Then in 1777 I finished the flag. In 1777 Jun.14 America was declared its own country [YaH!!!]I died in 1836.

Hi I am Jackie Robinson and I’m here to tell you about my life. When I was a kid my family was poor so I started doing good deeds. I was born in 1919.

Someone named Ricky made a deal to play for the dodgers.

I made the deal.

I played baseball when I got older.

Sometimes People Threatened to kill me but I was fearless.

In 1947 I was the first African-American to play in the major leagues of baseball. I got black people to play in baseball.

Many white fans hated me.

I was a sports star in high school and college. I left college to earn money for his family. He joined the U.S. Army. Some U.S.   Officers treated me unfairly because I was African-American.

 

In 1947 I played for the Kansas City Monarchs baseball team. They were the Negro American league. African-Americans could not play on major league teams at that time.

I was a great baseball player. In 1962 I was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame. I died In 1972

Hi, I’m Thomas Jefferson. I’m here to tell you about my life. I was born on April 2, 1743 in Virginia. Not to brag, but without me, we would be the smallest country ever!

 

When I was little, I had six lousy-whoops!-I mean wonderful sisters and one wonderful brother. In 1767, I went to the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg. In 1769 I became a lawyer.

 

In 1772 on New Year’s Day, I married Martha Wayles Skelton. In September my daughter, Patsy, was born.

 

In 1773, Martha’s father died. He left us one-third of his estate. We inherited 11,000 acres of land and 135 slaves. I felt that England treated the colonies poorly. I, along with other Virginia leaders, came up with a plan. We wanted men from all of the colonies to meet at a Continental Congress. There we would decide what to do with the British. At 32, I was one of the youngest delegates to the Second Continental Congress. We delegates decided that the colonies should become independent of England.

 

Delegates to the Second Continental Congress met in the spring of 1776. They asked me and a few others to write a Declaration of Independence. You may know me for that (laughs). I spent 17 days writing and rewriting the formal Declaration of Independence. Others made suggestions, but the document was mostly my work. It says that all men are created equal. It says everyone has the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. I finished writing the Declaration of Independence on June 28, 1776. The congress debated what it said while I sat silently. On July 4, the Declaration was adopted. The first shots in the Revolutionary War had been in fired in 1775. The fighting finally ended in 1781. The Americans won the war and their independence from England.

 

In 1779 I was elected governor of Virginia.  British soldiers landed and almost captured me. But I escaped. I retired as governor in 1781, the same year that the war ended.  I didn’t retire for long though, I was elected to Congress. The following year, I was sent to France by Congress. I needed to negotiate treaties with the French. When Benjamin Franklin resigned as ambassador to France, I replaced him.  While I was in Paris, I received a copy of the Constitution! I liked parts of it, but I worried that it did not have a bill of rights. I urged that amendments to protect individual rights be added, and they were!

I became the third president of the United States in 1801!!! First I served secretary for George Washington. I also served as vice president for John Adams, who was the country’s second president. As president, I was most remembered for buying the Louisiana Territory from France!!! The territory contained all of the land between the Mississippi River and the Rocky mountains. This purchase of land that cost me $15 million doubled the size of the United States. I doubted that the constitution allowed the purchase of the new territory. But I and the Senate felt that the benefits to the country were important.  We were really willing to risk breaking the law. My secretary, Meriwether Lewis, and William Clark explored the new territory and beyond. They reached the Pacific Ocean in 1805.

I won re-election as president but I didn’t at all seek a third term. I retired from politics and returned to my beloved Monticello. I stayed busy. I read books and I wrote many letters. Through the years I had invented clever devices. I made a revolving music stand and a device to bring my clothes to me from my closet. I invented a device for writing to copies of a letter at the same time! I won a prize for a plow I invented!!!  I was lonely without Martha. She had died in 1782 after giving birth to our sixth child. My children were dead, too! Except for Patsy.

In 1826, on July 4^th, also the 50^th anniversary for the Declaration of independence, I became ill and I died.

Hi! I’m Thurgood Marshal. I’m thrilled to be here today to tell you about my life.

 

I was born on 1908 July 2. I spent my youth on Druid Hill Avenue in Baltimore. I enjoyed playing in the back alley with

the tough kids. My brother Aubrey did not. When it was time for dinner my mother used to go the front door and call my older brother. Then she’d go to the back door and call me.

 

At the all-black Frederick Douglass High school I played football and led the debate team. I earned a B average and also loved to socialize.
